Jazelle

Crate Chipin

One of the difficult aspects of getting all the animals out of Afghanistan is crates. We here in the USA are so fortunate to be able to go online or to the local store and buy what our furry friends need. Many other supplies are always needed but crates always seem to be the most difficult to have available in Afghanistan.
We appreciate all of our supporters more than you can know and once again we say Thank You to all Team PRM Family & Friends. Supporting our Soldiers is such a blessing and this is our small way of showing them that we love and appreciate them. PAW SALUTE!

In Memory Fund

The Puppy Rescue Mission suffered a heartbreak at the loss of Scout, Stryker, and Sapper. These three sweet puppies were in a very remote location of Afghanistan and the team at TPRM, along with some on-the-ground angels were trying to get to them for transport to the safe facility. Sadly, before transport could be arranged, the puppies were killed by the Afghan police. The devoted soldiers and their families have joined us in turning heartbreak into positive action.
In that spirit, the "In Memory Fund" has been set up - to remember Scout, Stryker, and Sapper - and continue the uplifting work of bringing home as many battle buddies as we can.

Jazelle

Jazelle

At combat outposts in Afghanistan, soldiers often adopt a stray neighborhood dog or two. They provide a huge morale boost for the soldiers there even if they're ornery, diseased and mangy, as the dogs often are.

Jazelle is the exception รข?? she is healthy, friendly and affectionate.

Soldiers from the Troop, keep Jazelle at their small outpost in the northern part of the city. About the size of a Jack Russell terrier, she trots along with soldiers on patrol every day. The Troop inherited her from the previous tenants of the Outpost, who took her to a vet at to get her shots.

"The guys leaving tried to take her with them, but she refused to leave the COP," said Staff Sgt. Bill. "She just falls in with whichever soldiers are staying here."

Thank You for your service Soldiers! It is because of men and women like you that we live in the Land of the Free. LETS GET Jazelle HOME!!!

It is impossible to keep a straight face in the presence of one or more kittens. ~Cynthia E. Varnado

Email from the wife: My husband has discovered two orphaned kittens that are in danger of being put down if we are unable to rescue them in the next 2+ weeks before he heads home on leave. I'd like to see these little companions well off; both are so friendly and have been good company to all. I am desperately trying to find an organization/ group that can help us get them back stateside with him and save their lives.

We will definitely help and TEAM PRM Family & Friends are the Best in the World...Lets RALLY for the Kitties!

Apollo & Thor "the Bully"

It's so funny how something as simple as a puppy can make even the hardest, toughened soldier melt upon a few kisses to the face."

From the Soldier: Here are two pics of the pups before we rescued them. they look better now but we need to get more pics of them.
Thor and Apollo are two brothers who were living with some Afghan police officers who guard the gate. These two puppies were spotted by my platoon during one of our many stops. We noticed that the dogs were in bad condition with no food and no water. We fed the dogs MREs while we were there and tried to give them water. The dogs were afraid of the police officers and hid from them. When we would show up they would come out and lay by us because they knew we were not going to hurt them. After a couple of weeks of seeing these dogs like that we decided to bargin with the police for the puppies. We aquired the two puppies and are now taking care of them in our compound. In our compound we made a small yard for them using HESCO barrier wires and made them a nice dog house with alot of shade from a Camo net. They are eating rice and hamburger meat that we get from out chow hall untill we can get dog food sent to us. They are cleaned up and really enjoying life with our platoon. Their names are Apollo and Thor. Apollo has the black snout and Thor the bully has a tan snout. They are wonderful dogs and are really warming up to us. We need your help to get them back to the United states and into a better home. If we dont do this they will have a low survival chance here with the heat, the locals who hate dogs, and the shortage on water and food.

These brothers are so blessed to have had these soldiers caring for them. We will not let you down. Start the Rally everyone for these cuties!

Darlin Dayzee~Headed to Georgia

"It's so funny how something as simple as a puppy can make even the hardest, toughened soldier melt upon a few kisses to the face."

And PUPPY BREATH is the BEST!!!

This Darlin is a sister to Lincoln, Powda & Kinah~

From the Soldier: "I have always loved dogs. I do not care what breed they are as the best dogs I have had have always been "mutt". At home my wife Angela, 9 year old daughter Lexi and I have 5 acres that the dogs can have the run of. When I came over to Afghanistan in May of 2011 I was just getting my feet under me when I learned that my 15 year old dog, Archie had died. A few weeks later, momma dog here had a litter of 8 pups. From the very beginning Dayzee, who was named by my friend, became my companion. She comes to me whenever I get to the tent. She is very friendly and loves to play. She wants to come in the tent but as she is not housebroken yet so I can not let her in. When she gets home, she will have another dog to play with and a 9 year old to keep her company. I can nnot wait to get her home where she can have a better life than she would if she stayed here."

Georgia you will have a new "Peach" named Dayzee to call your own. Can't wait for Darling Dayzee to meet her new sister Lexi and the rest of the family in Georgia. Life is so Sweet!

Thank you to this and ALL the Soldiers for your Service and Godspeed!

CARTMAN: Puppy Love

"It's so funny how something as simple as a puppy can make even the hardest, toughened soldier melt upon a few kisses to the face."

Hello,
Here is the story of how i met my beloved Cartman.
It is a simple story of love at first sight. I was on a long and hot security patrol. It was a quiet patrol. When all of a sudden I heard a high pitched ferocious bark. When I turned to the right to look at what was making the noise I saw this cute little butterball waddling towards me. It was love at first sight. I picked him up and began to pet him. His half afghan/half russian owner came out and started to talk to me. I had no idea what he was saying. I got my interpreter to translate. The man told me I could have the dog for free. I felt bad for the man because the man loved the dog as much as I did. So we settled the deal. I gave the man $20 for Cartman and I told him I would take very good care of him.
Cartman is my joy here. Whenever I get down he is there to cheer me up. Truly man's best friend. I would like to always have him in my life that is why I want to bring him home to Maine.
Thank You so much,
Zach and Cartman
Cartman you will not be left behind!

Lincoln and Powda: Together Forever!

Here are some pictures of Powda and me. There are also a couple of Powda wrestling with her brother and closest pal Lincoln. I love Lincoln as well. I've heard awful things of what becomes of male pups left out here in Afghanistan. If there is any way I can keep them together and bring them both home for a reasonable price I will.

Our patrol dog Mama had eight pups here on the Base about a month ago. Mama is a goddess here on the Base. She patrols every morning and without her, the soldiers just don't feel as comfortable on patrol. She and her pups live right under my tent. The smallest one, Powda, was such the runt that she still couldn't see while her brother and sisters were running around causing trouble. But I made sure she got special attention. She's since caught up well, still smaller than her siblings but what she lacks in size she makes up for with sheer determination. Each day when I bring the pups food, she is the first to scamper out from under the tent. After she eats, she always leaves the group to come gnaw on my boots or lick the salt from my hands. Lately, her brother Lincoln has joined her. Without fail, he distracts her from me and they begin wrestling, as pictured. The two of them bring such joy every night as I return to my tent. In fact, they all do, not just for me, but for all our soldiers, who do their best to provide comfort for the pups in this very harsh environment. I'd love to bring Powda and Lincoln home so they can enjoy a better life.
Very Respectfully,
R

For Sure we are going to help you , Powda & Lincoln! No one will be left behind!!!

Sookie~ Sweet Girl

From the Soldier: "I have a 3 - 4 month old puppy that I would do whatever is necessary to bring her home.

Her name is Sookie. I adopted her from some Afghans that work and live next to us. When they first had her, I went over to see the puppy and they asked me if I wanted her. I said yes, but my team leader said I couldn't. I brought the puppy over to our camp to show my team leader in hopes that he would change his mind, but he didn't. She was whimpering and scratching at all the fleas on her so we gave her a bath before returning her to the Afghans. All we had to wash her with was regular shampoo that we use in the shower, but it was better than nothing.

Over the next couple days, a couple of us would coax the puppy to come over to us and we would feed her whatever scraps we had from our meals. Some of the guys saw the Afghans throwing rocks and hitting her, so it didn't take long for her to figure out that life was better with us. One night I started looking to see if it was even possible to bring her back to the states and that was when my team leader caved in. He told me as long as I took care of her that I could have her because I wanted to bring her back home with me. Shortly after that, I found out about the Puppy Rescue Mission.

Since then, I have ordered some good puppy food and she has grown a lot in such a short time. Sookie is very smart and picked up training very fast. There are 4 dogs right outside of our part of the FOB that live with the medical team that she loves to play with. Boss used to be the 5th dog, but she left a couple weeks ago. Sookie walks with me out to the aircraft for shift change and always lays down underneath the helicopter out of the sun waiting for me. The other dogs come join us and they play with each other. We also have a cat that has been here for over a year. Sookie used to get excited around her and mostly just wanted to play and the cat didn't want anything to do with her, but they've since developed a respect for each other and don't really have any problems at all."

Thank you for having such a great program,
Chris

Please help Sookie get to the Land of the Free, Because of the BRAVE! Paw Salute Chris. You make us proud to be Americans!

Heavenly Halo

From the Soldier of LuLu:
Halo was the camp dog when we arrived here with our pups.  About a month and a half after we arrived the guys who took her in had to leave to return home.  Halo was depressed for a good week.  I could tell she was a very sensitive and special dog.  However, she did have the puppies to keep her occupied and they filled her days with good ole dog activities.  Once the new group of guys came we realized that none of the dogs would be completely safe here anymore and soon the pups left her too.  Halo was pretty heartbroke which broke my heart.  I began to focus all my spare time on her.  Not only did she need it but so did I.  We became best friends.  She slept with me and escorted me to our outdoor showers every night.  One night while I was taking a shower a huge bug flew in and of course I screamed!  Next thing I knew Halo was barking and running to my rescue!  She showed me that night that if someone loved her there was nothing she wouldn't do for that person.  Unfortunately, there were guys on the camp who couldn't see just how special she was.  One night a few of them chased Halo all around the camp trying to tape her up to shoot her.  Luckily our female medic stepped in and Halo was able to run away and find a good hiding spot.  Apparently they had been harassing her for sometime but I didn't know.  That's when I contacted all the ladies that helped us rescue our LuLu and Betty.  Halo just left yesterday to the shelter in Kabul.  Already the camp feels different...Halo's happy spirit is gone.  I miss her but I know that she is on a journey to a good home.  I just can't wait to come visit her when I get back to the United States to see her again.

LANDING ZONE LIZZY!

"It's so funny how something as simple as a puppy can make even the hardest,
toughened soldier melt upon a few kisses to the face."

Hi, My Name Is Gabe, I'm an Army veteran who served 8 years for the USA. I served my country faithful. My father served 23 years for our country. I am currently working to train the Afghan Army and assist our troops. While deployed in Afghanistan I fell in love with a little girl. She is my baby Girl Lizzy, Long for LZ(Landing Zone). I found her on the landing zone amongst MRAPS and Helos runnng around the LZ. I have been taking care of her for a little under 2 weeks now. I live by myself in tents so hiding her is no problem. I take her to work with me everyday. The guys love her so much. I need to get her back to the States before Vector Control finds her and puts her down. I have strong connections with the SF community and I am currently working on trying to get her shots, but nothing is guarantted. I have a bunch of guys (Army & Civilian) here that are willing to donate funds and plenty of guys that want to take her back to the states. This little girl has touched alot of hearts. She is the one thing that makes being here tolerable. Can you Please Help Lizzy!

Gabe

MAJOR

Major's story
Gamberi is a desert region approximately 10 kilometers North of Jalalabad, Afghanistan. I was having a bad day so I went for a walk. I sat down next to some HESCO barriers to just reflect on the day and my mission here in Afghanistan. I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and saw this yellow Lab mix dog with dark brown eyes. He sat down about 15 feet away from me and started wagging his tail. I called to him to come over and he did. He laid down next to me about two feet away. This being our first encounter, he did not come any closer. After that I would look for him and I would sit down and he would come over and just listen to me talk to him. I would feed him beef jerky treats when I could get them. He became very comfortable around me and would let me touch him all over. I noticed he had apparently broke his leg awhile back. It occurred to me that he was the dog I saw limping about a month ago. He would not let me get anywhere near him then. I also noticed a scar across the right top of his head. It has healed up nicely now. I realized that I have a similar scar also and I broke my left arm also. Because of that I decided to call him "Major" also. Now he lays down next to me usually resting his head on my foot or leg. He became so friendly that I picked him up and put him into a car so a contractor could take care of him while I was on leave. Apparently he escaped the next day when I was gone. No one could find him. When I returned and heard this, I was so disappointed. I went out looking for him, but he found me first. Now, every time I see him, I put his collar on and I take him for short walks. He does not even limp anymore. He comes over when I call or whistle. He lays down next to me with his head on my foot or leg. Sometimes he will gently grab my hand when he wants me to pet him some more. I find it refreshing to find an animal so gentle and comforting in war torn Afghanistan. I have even asked him what he is doing here, but of course, he did not answer..... He is a good listener even if he does not say much.

BUZZ

Well Buzz came to us at our firebase one day because pretty much everywhere you go there seems to be a camp dog but since being there even as a small pup him and I attached from the start. Come dinner time he knew who to see, come time for everyone to sleep he knew who's room had a bed ready for him after a short period you couldn't find him not following me. I at first had no plans of taking him home with me but sadly one day while I was out working the Afhgans that worked in our area decided to do what they do to dogs and cut off his ears, once my anger was done I realized that this little guy had become my new best friend on the camp and after seeing what they had done to him I knew at that point I was going to do what ever it took to get him home with me. He has got to be one of the most loyal nicest dogs I have ever had and I've had dogs since I can remember I know he's going to make a great family dog for my wife and I. However as you know the cost can be tough and though I'm going to do what ever it takes help can go a long way and would really be greatly appreciated. Again thank you for what you do to help fellow soldiers out send more then one or two and it wouldn't be to big.

ETTA aka PupPup

Puppy Rescue Mission is always up to a challenge. So here it is:American in Afghanistan is working for the USA as a secret weapon...Secret is the key. Remember Spiderman Sam. Well we have Spiderman (works by day and puppy rescuer by night) actually who has a heart as big as Texas. He has been caring for the animals outside the wire. So far rescued 13 pups and kitties with the help of other Americans serving over there. He has made very very large dog houses to help protect some of the animals from not so nice humans and other animals.

He is UNCLE SPIDEY to a special girl named PupPup. He has been vetting all the strays and protecting them as much as he can. This group of pups are "THE BACKGATE GANG". He asked us to name the 2 new puppies that were delivered 4 weeks ago and PRM TEAM named them Butch and Sundance. So to keep with the plot of Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid we also named their Momma's best friend PupPup~Etta (Katherine Ross in the movie for those who need a refresher course). Etta has been adopted by a Soldier and his girlfriend in Kentucky. The Soldier is currently serving in Afghanistan and the girlfriend has fallen for ETTA. So here is the challenge: Uncle Spidey has been paying for the rescueing of all these animals and the feeding, vetting, loving, petting, playing and all around fathering of all these strays. PRM has known Uncle Spidey for quite a long time. He not only cares for the animals but he has been known to go and visit our puppies at the transit facility to check on Our Soldiers Pups. He has also helped some soldiers get their animals protected and delivered to safety. We wanted to help him with "THE BACKGATE GANG" so we have set up a chipin for ETTA aka Pup Pup. She will be followed by Butch & Sundance, Wiggles, Scooter & Pops (if Pops ever fully learns to trust Uncle Spidey). Remember "One Dog at A Time"...So lets focus on getting ETTA to the Land of The Free, Because of the Brave.

This is Auntie Etta Checking on Wiggles puppies~Butch & Sundance. She has told them all about the Land of the Free~Because of the Brave and they are all ears when she tells them about grass and clear clean water and puppy treats that have peanut butter in them. But mostly they love to hear about the families over in the Country they call USA. They are amazed to hear that people in America love their puppies and even give them kisses! Paw Salute and Lets get them to the USA! ETTA first though as it is 1 puppy at a time (1PAAT).

"Raindrops kept falling on her head" so she is now at the transit facility hanging out with PUPPIES!! I hear there is quite a puppy party going on there.
