Hi, My Name Is Gabe, I'm an Army veteran who served 8 years for the USA. I served my country faithful. My father served 23 years for our country. I am currently working to train the Afghan Army and assist our troops. While deployed in Afghanistan I fell in love with a little girl. She is my baby Girl Lizzy, Long for LZ(Landing Zone). I found her on the landing zone amongst MRAPS and Helos runnng around the LZ. I have been taking care of her for a little under 2 weeks now. I live by myself in tents so hiding her is no problem. I take her to work with me everyday. The guys love her so much. I need to get her back to the States before Vector Control finds her and puts her down. I have strong connections with the SF community and I am currently working on trying to get her shots, but nothing is guarantted. I have a bunch of guys (Army & Civilian) here that are willing to donate funds and plenty of guys that want to take her back to the states. This little girl has touched alot of hearts. She is the one thing that makes being here tolerable. Can you Please Help Lizzy!

MAJOR

Major's story
Gamberi is a desert region approximately 10 kilometers North of Jalalabad, Afghanistan. I was having a bad day so I went for a walk. I sat down next to some HESCO barriers to just reflect on the day and my mission here in Afghanistan. I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and saw this yellow Lab mix dog with dark brown eyes. He sat down about 15 feet away from me and started wagging his tail. I called to him to come over and he did. He laid down next to me about two feet away. This being our first encounter, he did not come any closer. After that I would look for him and I would sit down and he would come over and just listen to me talk to him. I would feed him beef jerky treats when I could get them. He became very comfortable around me and would let me touch him all over. I noticed he had apparently broke his leg awhile back. It occurred to me that he was the dog I saw limping about a month ago. He would not let me get anywhere near him then. I also noticed a scar across the right top of his head. It has healed up nicely now. I realized that I have a similar scar also and I broke my left arm also. Because of that I decided to call him "Major" also. Now he lays down next to me usually resting his head on my foot or leg. He became so friendly that I picked him up and put him into a car so a contractor could take care of him while I was on leave. Apparently he escaped the next day when I was gone. No one could find him. When I returned and heard this, I was so disappointed. I went out looking for him, but he found me first. Now, every time I see him, I put his collar on and I take him for short walks. He does not even limp anymore. He comes over when I call or whistle. He lays down next to me with his head on my foot or leg. Sometimes he will gently grab my hand when he wants me to pet him some more. I find it refreshing to find an animal so gentle and comforting in war torn Afghanistan. I have even asked him what he is doing here, but of course, he did not answer..... He is a good listener even if he does not say much.

BUZZ

Well Buzz came to us at our firebase one day because pretty much everywhere you go there seems to be a camp dog but since being there even as a small pup him and I attached from the start. Come dinner time he knew who to see, come time for everyone to sleep he knew who's room had a bed ready for him after a short period you couldn't find him not following me. I at first had no plans of taking him home with me but sadly one day while I was out working the Afhgans that worked in our area decided to do what they do to dogs and cut off his ears, once my anger was done I realized that this little guy had become my new best friend on the camp and after seeing what they had done to him I knew at that point I was going to do what ever it took to get him home with me. He has got to be one of the most loyal nicest dogs I have ever had and I've had dogs since I can remember I know he's going to make a great family dog for my wife and I. However as you know the cost can be tough and though I'm going to do what ever it takes help can go a long way and would really be greatly appreciated. Again thank you for what you do to help fellow soldiers out send more then one or two and it wouldn't be to big.

ETTA aka PupPup

Puppy Rescue Mission is always up to a challenge. So here it is:American in Afghanistan is working for the USA as a secret weapon...Secret is the key. Remember Spiderman Sam. Well we have Spiderman (works by day and puppy rescuer by night) actually who has a heart as big as Texas. He has been caring for the animals outside the wire. So far rescued 13 pups and kitties with the help of other Americans serving over there. He has made very very large dog houses to help protect some of the animals from not so nice humans and other animals.

He is UNCLE SPIDEY to a special girl named PupPup. He has been vetting all the strays and protecting them as much as he can. This group of pups are "THE BACKGATE GANG". He asked us to name the 2 new puppies that were delivered 4 weeks ago and PRM TEAM named them Butch and Sundance. So to keep with the plot of Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid we also named their Momma's best friend PupPup~Etta (Katherine Ross in the movie for those who need a refresher course). Etta has been adopted by a Soldier and his girlfriend in Kentucky. The Soldier is currently serving in Afghanistan and the girlfriend has fallen for ETTA. So here is the challenge: Uncle Spidey has been paying for the rescueing of all these animals and the feeding, vetting, loving, petting, playing and all around fathering of all these strays. PRM has known Uncle Spidey for quite a long time. He not only cares for the animals but he has been known to go and visit our puppies at the transit facility to check on Our Soldiers Pups. He has also helped some soldiers get their animals protected and delivered to safety. We wanted to help him with "THE BACKGATE GANG" so we have set up a chipin for ETTA aka Pup Pup. She will be followed by Butch & Sundance, Wiggles, Scooter & Pops (if Pops ever fully learns to trust Uncle Spidey). Remember "One Dog at A Time"...So lets focus on getting ETTA to the Land of The Free, Because of the Brave.

This is Auntie Etta Checking on Wiggles puppies~Butch & Sundance. She has told them all about the Land of the Free~Because of the Brave and they are all ears when she tells them about grass and clear clean water and puppy treats that have peanut butter in them. TRACER: AFGHANISTAN DOG

Tracer. Well i was one of the first soldiers from my unit to arrive here and when i got in my tent and picked out my cot he was sleeping under it. i don't really know how old he was maybe like 2 months if that. it took me a whole day to pick a name because i didn't want it to seem to cheesy with the army lingo but i wanted it to be a cool name you know, so i finally came up with Tracer and it stuck. we got a doggy doc out there to give him some shots so we could keep him on base, and when he was able to keep up we were so proud because he would go on every dismounted patrol with us no matter what time. he was a quiet puppy only barking when you played with him, but now he's almost around 70lbs and he's pretty protective of our platoon. Tracer wasn't trained by any means by the military but he has taken it upon himself to be our body guards while on patrol. keeping locals at bay if needed, and warning us if there is someone we cant see by barking and growing at him until we investigate. he's grown up and he is respected by the locals because they know that he is our dog, he's one of us. I don't know how he got under my cot last year or maybe i sat on his cot. however it happened im glad it did i gave him his first bath a month ago with dog shampoo he wasn't to happy at the time but he was pretty excited after. im not the only one who loves him. He is a platoon dog we moved bases and he moved right with us, and every mission to learn our new area he was right next to the lead man our in front of him clearing the way. Tracers been with us his whole life. we're all he knows. there's no telling how the next unit will treat him or if they'll kick him off the base. where would he go? he's been with us through everything this deployment and it wouldn't be right if we didn't try everything we could to bring him home. To him wherever we are is his home and where ever i am i want tracer there, he has become a part of my life. He has become a part our life, and no one gets left behind.

LuLu & Betty~Sisters!

On our way to our final destination myself and my teammate stopped at a location where we met a very nice gentleman who was showing us around. Towards the end of the evening we stopped by another part of the camp. He talked to another guy he knew and asked us if we would like some puppies. Of course, we were over joyed! They took us over to a gravel area where they put up some cots as a make shift area for the pups. Inside were the two most adorable pups huddled in a corner together. It's was in the 30's during that time. A few days later we caught a flight on a Blackhawk to our duty station. We put the pups in a cardboard, which on put on the floor of the helicopter in between my legs and we were off! The whole 4 hour flight the pups quietly slept. Once we landed some guys came out to help with our gear. I handed one guy the cardboard box and tried to yell over the sound of the helicopter that there were live puppies inside. He didn't hear me. They were thrown in the back of the car underneath some of our luggage. As soon as I saw the box underneath the luggage I quickly ran over and pulled it out. Inside they were quietly laying inside. For the next three months they stayed in our barracks room. We went through potty training and all the puppies rituals. During our time together they gave us unconditional love and much needed relaxation. It can be very difficult for the only two females on a military camp.They also became very close friends with the camp dog that was already here. Her name is Halo and she took them under care and taught them their dog ways! Unfortunately, in March we had a new group we were working for and they do not like dogs. We were told they eventually we would have to set them free to make them 'wild' or they would put them down. We immediately contacted the transist facility & they helped us thru the whole process of getting Betty and Lulu safely to the United States!

Little Boston

                                                                        From the Soldier:

Little Boston was picked up by our National Guard Unit out of Massachusetts so of course the only proper name for her was Boston. She was determined that day to get away from the hard life, fending for herself and being a target for little rock throwers that had nothing better to do than harm helpless puppies. As the MRAP pulled off she ran right along with it in its huge shadow and won the hearts of our SECFOR guys. This was the day that little Boston would start a new life. From the "streets" of Afghanistan she has adapted well as our little "Princess" at FOB Smart. She is a 2-3 month old female with lots of energy and she loves the attention she receives. Nobody can resist those little puppy dog eyes when she looks up at you and challenges you to play.
Initially she was going to be another "FOB Dog" and we all took turns taking care of her when we weren't on missions, but somehow I had taken the title of her "mommy" because she followed me everywhere. Boston has become my little shadow and feel like I have to make sure she goes to a good home!

This little Princess will be coming home with you!

Gorgeous Ginger

GINGER

From the Soldier:

I first met Ginger when she a little younger and had walked onto FOB. Somehow, she made it through the area where the undisciplined Polish trained drug and explosives dogs populate near the entry gates. Ginger clumsily stumbled into the compound where I live and has been kept here since her arrival. She was scared, hungry, and exhausted. We did not and still do not have any dog food, thus we get an extra plate from the Dining Facility when possible. Although Ginger DID NOT like pork (like most Afghans), she loves it now! We tried to get dog food for Ginger but it seems dog food is not really a choice at the bazaar.

Everyone visiting the compound just loves Ginger. She has really come out of her shell and plays most of the day. It's been getting hotter here lately though, thus she finds cool places to rest in the shade during the day. We did have a set back whenswe received the first Indirect Fire of the year. Ginger cowered under the tent platform for three hours. It took alot of coaxing to get her out from under the platform and she is still a little gunshy with loud noises, especially outgoing or registration fires.

I am hoping to take Ginger home to America because she deserves a normal life for a dog. Afghanistan is a terrible place for some people to live, much less an innocent puppy. I had intended to find a home for a puppy once I returned from my deployment anyway, thus why not save an Afgan dog from eating trash and a life of creulty in the process? My job keeps me extremely busy, but others would come to the compound play with her. Unfortunately, mission has dictated for my friends/co-workers to travel to other FOBs and Ginger has been a bit lonely here lately. I have a home in Maryland and if I am able to bring Ginger to America, I will find a another puppy playmate for her. I work many hours in a non-deployed environment as well and I don't want to leave Ginger alone for that long of a time during the hours of the day. She is the sweetest puppy and deserves a good life.

From the Soldier:

You spoke to my mother or she to you about my dog here at my patrol base that I befriended. Her story is this. On February 14th 2011, valentines day, I went on another long trekking mission. It was raining, massive bear dogs harassing us and the constant reminder we were walking in the wet fields... On the way back to our patrol base, about 4 clicks out a little kid came up to us and said "Dollar". All the children ask for dollars but this kid had a dog, and not just any dog. This puppy could not have been any older than 2 weeks old and had the best coat I have ever seen in Afghanistan, the puppy this kid was holding had a black coat accented with white and big floppy ears on such a tiny head. seeing how our 3 dogs had mysteriously vanished over the last few weeks I decided I was gonna pay this kid a measly dollar for such a pretty puppy. My friend gave this kid two dollars and he gave up the puppy. I gripped my weapon by the pistol grip and continued to treck in the rain with this sweet puppy cradled in my left arm. As we walked to our base the children told me to throw her in the puddle and bite her, but I only replied by kissing her on the nose, and this puppy looked at me and sniffed, shaking from the cold. A while later our patrol base sent out vics to pick us up, and they got us. I put the dog in my kevlar as we were driving back, even though im supposed to wear my kevlar ( im a corpsman,), and my buddy asked what I was going to name her. I thought about cool names, but I figured a human being name was going to be better. So I named her Ronnie James Dio. Ronnie is one helluva rock star name. I took her back and she lived with us, sleeping with me and in our coc. She grew up and we got two more dogs named J.R. and Bear. Ronnie comes when I call, follows me everywhere, has very few ticks because im doc and I love her, eats what I eat because were in a patrol base and dont have much, does not hang out with the scally wag dogs roaming around outside, and follows me on patrols. She always, and I mean ALWAYS comes back from point on the patrols to see if im there, she will not leave the patrol base without me, always jumps in my lap on the mounted missions, and never bites me or raises an attitude. I believe she was born on february 1st, because of her size when I got her on Feb. 14th. I have seen NO other dogs her color here in afghan. She has her long goofy ears, her wonderful black tail that lookes like she dipped the end in white paint, and a very light brown iris. She surprisingly has not been sick out here. Thank you for your help and I hope to hear from you soon.
