Rita~She is a Survivor
Her Story:
Rita was about three or four weeks old when she was found by soldiers on my team. She was in a burlap bag that was being dragged and kicked by a group of kids. As many of the locals where we have been for the last nine months feel that dogs are unclean, we knew that she had a very poor chance of any kind of decent life. Most dogs and other animals here are treated very poorly and many dogs have their ears cropped and are used for fighting here. We purchased Rita from the kids and I adopted her. She had a very difficult time adjusting to the new environment due to how young she was, her previous treatment and the complete change of atmosphere including people and new language. We were lucky enough to have some dog food left at our camp from a military dog handler but she was so young, it took a while before she was eating regularly. Everyone on my team really fell in love with her and most had packages mailed for her with everything from flea collars to organic doggie snacks. I still had to constantly monitor her because we work closely with Afghans that did not like and were afraid of her. Everyday we had to repeatedly tell them that she was now a part of our team and family and they could not throw rocks at her or kick her. With this constant protection and a little training, she has grown into a very loving and loyal dog. She will go on daily runs with me, where over and over, she will run out in front of me and sit to pull security for me until I catch up to her. I have an older female dog that I rescued off of the street back home that never got to have puppies but is very good with other dogs and really needs a companion. It was decided that I would be able to provide the best home for Rita and we came up with as much money collectively as we could afford and made the arrangements to start her long journey to the States. Due to computer issues, attatched is one of the few pictures that I have left of her. It was a very difficult day when I had to put her in the back of a strangers car and she looked at me with fear and disbelief then buried her head in the blanket and would not look up again because she felt that she had done something wrong. To date, she has travelled in this taxi for twelve hours, transferred to a bus the following day, crossed Afghanistan, been held at a car dealership for a day, been picked up by a friends dad, who had her for two days, dropped off at the facility where she was spayed. She survived a severe intestinal infection and is now doing good and waiting to continue her journey to my home.
~On a funny note, I have had a list of volunteer dog-sitters and more than one has asked if they could come by to visit, not me but Rita.

One and Two: The Blues Brothers! FUNDS MET!
They are 2 male puppies that were born on December 30, 2010 on the patrol base. They have been there the entire time with the Soldier. He adores them and wants them safe in the USA. Soon they will travel to the facility to get vet care and pack their bags for the USA. Our Mission is to help the Soldier raise the money which is a lot but they can't travel in the same kennel so spread the word that the Blues Brothers are wanting to be US citizens with their Soldier.
P.S. These cuties could be Dan & John or maybe Jake & Elwood? Which do you think? The soldier calls them one and two so for now we will call them the Blues Brothers!
These two puppies are brothers and the Soldier will be bringing them home to live in safety! He has arranged for their transport to the facility that will vet them and care for them until the journey will begin. Please spread the word to all as this is a costly mission but not an impossible mission. So Rally everyone and Lets Get the BLUES BROTHERS to the LAND of the FREE BECAUSE of the BRAVE! MISS MILEY
Miss Miley's Story:
Miley the puppy (at the time, she is a much larger & a teenager now) was rescued during one of their patrols from some Afghani kids had her in a plastic bag. Their entire platoon has been caring for Miley... she has become their war buddy and companion. Unfortunately they will be returning to the states soon (50 days). Kevin, one of the soldiers, has become very attached to Miley and would like to send her home to his parents so that she may live her life in safety.
Miss Miley, Puppy Rescue Mission is going to do whatever it takes to get you to Soldier Kevin's parents house. Paw Salute to this platoon! We appreciate your service and your special hearts!

Amira: Soldiers' Princess
From her soldier:
Amira was a puppy that was originally living at an OP above our FOB. She followed people down and was in danger of being terminated. We temporarily held her in a holding pen on our FOB that housed a ram and two donkeys. Unfortunately, her herding tendencies forced her to "herd" all of these animals. She would nip at their ankles. Security personnel took her about 10 KM away from the base and released her. Well, Amira is not one to give up easily. She found her way across a river, onto the FOB and was at our doorstep about a day and a half later. She has since become our team dog and is sequestered in our area. She has provided pet therapy to our team and is our unofficial mascot. If she were to be released into the wild, I'm sure she would again return to the base and be terminated. I am hoping to be able to bring her home to the states with me...can you help?

Trever The Trooper!
I just think he deserves a better home. Here's how he subtley became part of Team Shah Joy:(I was actually sitting out this mission.) A little over a month ago, during a foot patrol, one of our guys spotted this puppy trying to chew a water bottle open and then trying to eat rocks...I'm guessing he was less than a month old. Poor thing. So he helped the puppy out, got him something to drink, fed and played with him a little. When it was time to walk back to base, this lonely puppy followed the guys back to the gate. There was no way any one them could turn this lost puppy away so our Team Lead allowed them to take him "home", to our compound. After a bath, flea repellent, and a collar made of 550 cord, he was part of the team! It wasn't too long before he became MY dog. He just started following me everywhere, pushing the door into my room, and making his bed under mine. So I'm getting some OJT in raising a pup.
We've had Trever for a little over a month now and it's no surprise how quickly he's become a member of our tight knit family. I've received several compliments from dog owners on the base that he has one of the best personalities they've ever seen in a young puppy; extremely friendly, outgoing, and trusting. He's well taken care of by everyone on the team and we've received several puppy care packages including dog food, puppy vitamins, chew toys, flea repellent, and dog shampoo. He stole the show after I started posting pictures of him on my FB.
I've heard of a couple guys who've taken dogs home from Afghanistan and they spent around $3,000. When I told the guys I'm considering taking him home, some said they would help pay but I could always use more help as well as more information on how to go about this in the first place.
Something really good is about to happen for! You are going to get to come to the Land of the Free Because of the Brave! Thank you Soldiers for rescueing Trever!

SCOUT: THE TROOPS LOVE HER!
Hello,
I am hoping I can receive some assistance in rescuing my platoon's dog, Scout. My platoon rescued Scout from several Afghan men who were beating her in the city the week before Christmas. Since then, we have raised Scout at our camp, but we have recently been told we must get rid of Scout immediately. I'm sure you hear this frequently, but this would be incredible to get Scout back to the States and I really appreciate any help. Scout has already been going on patrols with my platoon and been through a lot with us.
Lets get this cutie out of the country asap. This is a rush as his time is ticking....Something really good is about to happen! You are going to get to come to the Land of the Free Because of the Brave!

SNEEZY: He needs to get to the USA ASAP!
Sneezy has met his goal. We had 2 checks that finished him so he is hopefully headed West to the USA very soon!
From a special person who cares for these animals....
I woke up at 3 am and decided i HAVE to send sneezy to the states. he is a very beloved dog of an american soldier who has been at the shelter for a month. he is sweet and loving but he has a terrible infection on his nose that makes him look very deformed and makes it hard for him to breathe. we are treating him the best we can but we cannot cure him. i want to send him to my vet in the states. once you see him it will break your heart. this one is hard to "market" because of his deformity, but he is the sweetest dog i have ever met and i do not think he will make it through the winter in Afghanistan. the soldier can pay $1000 and i told him i would try to raise the rest...
This soldier is desperate to save his dog, Sneezy has been his buddy in arms and we NEED to get Sneezy to the states to take care of his nose infection. Please, please help Sneezy get home. We need to raise $2000.00 as QUICKLY as possible...this baby HAS to come home......thank you to all of you.

Sadie~She keeps her Soldiers Happy & Warm
"It's so funny how something as simple as a puppy can make even the hardest, toughened soldier melt upon a few kisses to the face."
The story on Sadie is: We were burning our garbage one day and saw some puppies and went to check them out. One pup looked cute so I caught her but she yelped and screamed. Her yelping caused mom, Shelia, to come over. I put the pup down and pet mom so she would see i didn't want to hurt the pup. The pup then came up and stomped her paw on the top of my foot so I picked her back up. The second time she did not yelp or whine or anything she was content to just be held and pet by us. We set the pup down and I started to walk back to our compound and she followed us. We left her with her mom for the night so I could clear it with my bunk mates but they said bring her in. The next day we went back out and brought her "home" with us. We had her in our tent for a couple of weeks but our chain of command found out and we had to put her back. I go see Sadie at least once a day more if i can. She is a great puppy and is 15 weeks old at the oldest. I would like to take her home because we are surrounded by an active mine field and have seen local nationals beat the dog just because they can. She is to cute and good to be stuck with that kind of life, I would like to give her a home that's warm has plenty of food and she never has to worry about getting beaten or blown up.

Because of the dilemmas of transporting animals out of Afghanistan the costs have increased. The Puppy Rescue Mission hopes that this is only a temporary situation and the costs will drop soon. For now we have to fund raise more as The Puppy Rescue Mission is a nonprofit corporation with all funds going to the animals rescue.

Patience is a treasure. She is loving, malleable, accomodating, grateful, and lots of fun. Always wagging her tail and wanting to be with people. She came to us as a young dog from the streets of kabul with a litter of pups about two years ago. The pups were all adopted but she stayed with us. She has been living in a large yard with about 10 other dogs and gets along well with all of them. She has not been around cats but her personality is very positive and friendly and I would be very surprised if she did not get along with cats. Usually it is the cats who have trouble adjusting to new dogs.
