From the Soldier:
You spoke to my mother or she to you about my dog here at my patrol base that I befriended. Her story is this. On February 14th 2011, valentines day, I went on another long trekking mission. It was raining, massive bear dogs harassing us and the constant reminder we were walking in the wet fields... On the way back to our patrol base, about 4 clicks out a little kid came up to us and said "Dollar". All the children ask for dollars but this kid had a dog, and not just any dog. This puppy could not have been any older than 2 weeks old and had the best coat I have ever seen in Afghanistan, the puppy this kid was holding had a black coat accented with white and big floppy ears on such a tiny head. seeing how our 3 dogs had mysteriously vanished over the last few weeks I decided I was gonna pay this kid a measly dollar for such a pretty puppy. My friend gave this kid two dollars and he gave up the puppy. I gripped my weapon by the pistol grip and continued to treck in the rain with this sweet puppy cradled in my left arm. As we walked to our base the children told me to throw her in the puddle and bite her, but I only replied by kissing her on the nose, and this puppy looked at me and sniffed, shaking from the cold. A while later our patrol base sent out vics to pick us up, and they got us. I put the dog in my kevlar as we were driving back, even though im supposed to wear my kevlar ( im a corpsman,), and my buddy asked what I was going to name her. I thought about cool names, but I figured a human being name was going to be better. So I named her Ronnie James Dio. Ronnie is one helluva rock star name. I took her back and she lived with us, sleeping with me and in our coc. She grew up and we got two more dogs named J.R. and Bear. Ronnie comes when I call, follows me everywhere, has very few ticks because im doc and I love her, eats what I eat because were in a patrol base and dont have much, does not hang out with the scally wag dogs roaming around outside, and follows me on patrols. She always, and I mean ALWAYS comes back from point on the patrols to see if im there, she will not leave the patrol base without me, always jumps in my lap on the mounted missions, and never bites me or raises an attitude. I believe she was born on february 1st, because of her size when I got her on Feb. 14th. I have seen NO other dogs her color here in afghan. She has her long goofy ears, her wonderful black tail that lookes like she dipped the end in white paint, and a very light brown iris. She surprisingly has not been sick out here. The primary mission of Puppy Rescue Mission is to raise funds & assist various organizations which help soldiers bring home their furry friends from war. While PRM's primary mission is to assist soldiers and their furry friends, PRM will also, from time to time, assist an organization in rehoming a stray animal.

In the event that there are funds remaining from the donations for this animal and any of the animals, The Puppy Rescue Mission Board of Directors will use the excess funds where necessary.
