"It's so funny how something as simple as a puppy can make even the hardest, toughened soldier melt upon a few kisses to the face."

From Peter:
Dear PRM,
For a few years I have been attempting to conceive a proper tribute to memorialize the more than 2300 American casualties from Operation Enduring Freedom. They occupy a special place in my heart, since I was working in the World Trade Center on 9/11 while I was attending college.

A little about myself; after college I worked in financial services, but 9/11 changed my view of everything and I became an athletic trainer. Over the past few years I have helped build a thriving personal training business focusing on improving athletic performance for young athletes, training individuals for various races and weightlifting competitions, and also helping people, ‘evolve’ as I call it, from dysfunctional sedentary cubicle life, to a functional and healthy human being. I am also a local volunteer firefighter in my community of St. James.

In December of this past year I stumbled upon PRM on Facebook and began following this amazing cause. I decided that whatever tribute I decided upon must include PRM. And that’s when everything came together. The objective would be to perform one pushup for every fallen American soldier in Afghanistan, while also completing a half marathon distance of 13.1 miles. It’s a daunting goal, considering the Guiness Book of World Records for pushups is approx. 6000 in 24 hours, and I’m planning to do more than 2300 in under 4 hours while also running 13.1 miles of hills. But what would a fitting memorial be unless it was nearly impossible!?

Concurrently, this tribute fits perfectly with helping soldiers in Afghanistan bring back their beloved dogs who have bonded and helped with morale while on deployment there. I am hoping to successfully obtain pledges for PRM over the next 3 months leading up to Sunday, June 8th when I will be hitting the streets of Lake Placid, NY to achieve the full goal during their annual Half Marathon race!

Sincerely,
